How Book-Writing Works and How to Do It Step-By-Step

Writing a book is not easy as 1-2-3. It is a difficult task that needs many small steps to get the whole thing done. Here are some great tips that will help you not get overwhelmed by the tremendous task. The tips are not in particular order. You may use some or all of them when writing your book.

1. The most important thing is to have one grand idea in your mind that will serve as your main plot. It is important to start it. Do this by writing one sentence that will describe the first scene of your story and another that will describe the very last scene of the story. At least, with this, you have set a limit to your story. You now know where it starts and how it ends. As you go along, you can just fill in the other major sub-plots with descriptive sentences that will serve as your guide later on.

2. Have note cards available for your important ideas. You may start by writing down on each note card the major scenes that you have in mind. Every time you come up with a new twist to the story, write each idea on one note card. Do this every time and before you know it, you have the skeleton or outline of the entire book. Its just a matter of arranging your note cards in order.

3. Get to know your characters really well. It would be good to have all the characters introduced by writing your first three chapters. By now, you know the strengths and weaknesses of each one and you know how to manipulate the rest of the story based on the different characters.

4. As you go along with the story, make sure that the protagonist in the story will change in some way. There has to be some sort of growth that is evident in him. If this does not happen, the book will not sound convincing.

5. Put logic in the story. A cause-and-effect style should be followed. Even it you are writing a fantasy that has some abstract nature in it, it should make clear sense. This is what the reader will be looking for. Otherwise, the reader would just put the book down and think that the material makes no sense at all.

These are just a few of the important things that a writer should keep in mind when writing a book. It may be daunting to write an entire book, but it should be a working progress that gets better as you keep going.
